Wondering if your Mailgun account can play a dual role in managing your email campaigns alongside another IMAP provider? It absolutely can! This guide walks you through the straightforward process of setting up Mailgun and integrating it seamlessly with Success.ai.

The idea is to configure success.ai to use Mailgun for sending emails, and any other email provider for IMAP and storage.

Let's get straight to the point and make it simple:

Mailgun Login:

  • Start by logging into your Mailgun account here.

Navigate to Sending:

  • Once logged in, head to the 'Sending' section in Mailgun. This is where the action begins, enabling you to leverage Mailgun's robust capabilities for sending emails.

Then click on this button to add a new domain:

Enter your domain. mailgun recomends you use mg.yourdomain.com for optimal delivery:

Configure DNS Settings:

Upon selecting the recommended domain, you will be redirected to the DNS settings page. Ensure that the values for SPF, DKIM, MX, and CNAME records are accurately entered. To double-check and confirm the correctness of these settings, utilize the "Verify DNS" button.

This step is crucial to guarantee the proper functioning of your Mailgun integration, so take the time to ensure each record is accurately configured.

If the DNS settings are correctly configured, the verification process will display a green status next to each of the recommended records. This visual confirmation ensures that your Mailgun setup is on track, and you're one step closer to optimal email delivery.

SMTP Configuration:

After confirming your DNS settings, proceed to the SMTP tab. This is where you'll fine-tune your Mailgun configuration for Success.ai. Click on the SMTP tab to access the necessary configurations.

SMTP User Setup:

Having configured your DNS and SMTP settings, it's time to add a new SMTP user. Remember to securely store the password as it won't be displayed again. This step ensures the smooth flow of outgoing emails through Mailgun.

Routing Incoming Emails:

Mailgun, while proficient in sending bulk emails, doesn't support IMAP for email retrieval and storage. For these crucial tasks, an email provider supporting IMAP is essential. Click on the "Receiving" tab to configure the routing of incoming emails for the SMTP user you've just created. This sets the stage for seamless warmups and efficient handling of campaign replies in Success.ai.

To do this click on Receiving:

Then click on the crete route button:

Email Routing Configuration:

Under the "Receiving" section, confirm that the Expression type is set to "Match Recipient." Enter the Mailgun email address you've recently created, ensuring that it aligns with all emails sent to that address.

Forwarding Setup:

Enable the forwarding option and specify the email address where you want emails from Mailgun to be forwarded. Commonly, users opt for personal Gmail accounts for seamless reception without the need for sending capabilities.

Note: Ensure that the forward destination is set according to your preferences. This configuration allows you to receive emails effectively, not to send them.

Next scroll down

Verify that the priority is set to 99 and in the description field, enter a memorable label like "Success.ai." Click on "Create Route" to establish the routing configuration.

Note: This is a crucial step in ensuring that incoming emails from Mailgun are efficiently forwarded to your designated email address.

Gmail App Password Creation:

If you've chosen a Gmail account for forwarding, generate an app password to enhance security. Follow these steps:

Click on the human-like icon and select "Manage Account."

Then select security:

Then click on 2- step verification as seen below:

If you have not configured this you will need to do so with a phone number or auth app.

Scroll down and click on app password:

Enter a descriptive name and click on the create button:

Ensure you copy the password to save in a safe place and click on done once you do.

Remember to remove the spaces before saving the password.

Now here’s the final part. Head to success.ai and login to your account.

Then go to email account:

And connect a new account:

Then any email provider and individual account setup:

For the first option, ensure you enter the Firstname, Lastname and the email address. The email address here will be the one from the SMTP mailgun email you created earlier on. This is because this is the email id you will see when you search for emails in your email account list.

Now it’s time to enter your IMAP details:

IMAP Configuration on Success.ai:

In this section, input your IMAP mail details. Utilize the app password created for your personal Gmail account:

Username: Your IMAP email address

Password: The app password created (without spacing)

IMAP Host: imap.gmail.com (for Gmail; for other providers, contact them for IMAP configuration)

Port: 993 (default)

Click on the "Next" button.

Next is the SMTP:

For SMTP configuration:

Username: The SMTP email created from the Mailgun account

Password: The password associated with the Mailgun account

Port: 587 (default)
